After "dying a slow death" behind a desk, first as a "Big 8" CPA and then as an internal auditor in the oil and gas industry, Gary Wolfe, MBA, CPA, LUTCF, CLU, ChFC had his fill of corporate politics and of spending his life in a career that he did not find meaningful.
"I wanted to use my financial background to make a difference in people's lives," he said. "When I lost my father at the age of seven, my three siblings and I also lost our mother, in many respects, because she had to work outside the home to support the family. I learned from my own personal experience that the finest love letter a person can write is to put their signature on quality insurance policies that will protect their loved ones in the event that they die too soon, live too long or become disabled.
Gary joined the Houston office of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in 1987. He has built a successful business and earned numerous awards along the way including: member of the Million Dollar Round Table and winner of the National Quality Award, both for 15 consecutive years. He has been a recipient of the National Sales Achievement Award for 16 years, and has consistently ranked in the top one percent of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network field force. While Gary is happy with his business achievements as well as the accolades and lifestyle they have earned him, what really makes him proud is the impact he has had on the lives of the people he serves.
"In my 19 years in practice, I have delivered payments for 16 death claims and 10 disability claims," he said. "When a tragedy strikes, everybody else delivers a bill. I'm the only one who brings a check. If I've done my job properly, it's a big check that gives loved ones the means to go on living with dignity and preserve the lifestyle they've become accustomed to.
"Clearly, what I have chosen to do professionally makes a real difference in people's lives," he added. "Left to their own devices, people don't plan to fail, but they do fail to plan. That's why I feel I'm doing God's work in helping people help themselves. The bonus in my business is when my clients become my friends, and that seems to happen on a regular basis."
Gary holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
